There are a lot of organizations and people in the scholarship search world who claim they have the “secret” to finding scholarships and in many cases will charge you a hefty fee to tell you what that “secret” is. I want to share with you the “secret” to finding scholarships based on my 15 years of researching scholarships and my success in helping hundreds of students obtain a debt-free education.

The first “secret” to winning any scholarship is early preparation. Are you scholarship ready?  What do you need to do ahead of time to prepare yourself to receive a scholarship?  If a college or scholarship organization is offering you $10,000 or more, how soon do you need to know about the requirements to position yourself to obtain it?

The main barrier I have found that keeps students from being able to apply for a scholarship is that they do not meet the requirements.  Preparation should begin in middle school and/or freshman year of high school at the latest.

The “Secrets” To Finding Scholarships

  • Have a 3.0 or higher GPA.
  • Be Involved in Extracurricular Activities beginning freshman year of high school
  • Volunteer beginning your freshman year of high school
  • Demonstrate Leadership
  • Highlight your Talent
  • Perform well on standardized tests.  (Although at this writing because of Covid-19 many schools are test-optional)

Yes, there are scholarships for the C student and scholarships that have nothing to do with academics.  The 3.0 GPA requirement will ensure you have more options in applying for scholarships.

So, the “secret” is to prepare and do your research early so you can take advantage of the numerous scholarships that are available.
