I am so excited for my student Caleb Cecil who graduated from the University of Dayton on 5/7/23 debt-free with a degree in Computer Engineering.  I am equally excited about the fact that he was given the opportunity to do an internship with Amazon in his junior year and was hired by Amazon Web Services  (AWS) at the end of his junior year.

I began working with him in his junior year of high school.  He was a very busy student since he played in the band,  but did an excellent job of managing his time.  I enjoyed working with him because he followed all of my tips and strategies for finding scholarships, had a good work ethic and did a fine job of setting his priorities.  He graduated with a 3.6 GPA and was in the Honors program.  His success at Dayton can be attributed to the following:

  • Involvement in extra-curricular activities.  Including those related to his major and career interests
  • Maintained a 3.0 or higher GPA which opened up more scholarship opportunities for him
  • Interacted and communicated with instructors and administrativie staff
  • Managed his time and set priorities
  • Sought help when he needed it
  • Did not shy away from leadership roles
  • Obtained internships beginning in his freshman year and performed well
  • Volunteered and gave back to local, national and global communities

The University of Dayton has great scholarship offerings.  If you are looking for a medium-sized school where you can stand out, this may be the school for you.

“ScholarShopMom was one of the best investments we ever made. Without her help and support I do not think our son would have been as successful in gaining  access to the colleges of his choice and winning scholarships.  She was always a step ahead in what needed to be done.  Thank you ScholarShopMom, for your persistence and constant communication with us to help our family stay focused, and help alleviate the stress of the overwhelming process of college applications and writing scholarship essays.  Your guidance was invaluable and was essential to our son’s success during this process.  Also, thank you for helping us achieve our goal of not having to take out any loans.  This started as an investment for our son’s future, but we got out of it more than we ever hoped.”
