I recently had the opportunity to view a presentation for counselors sponsored by Transylvania University located in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. I was not at all familiar with this university and found it be a hidden gem. “Transy” is a small private college with an enrollment of 1,000 students. It has 46 majors and Division III sports. I am interested in schools that support students academically, financially and socially and Transy does that. The following are the reasons I was impressed by the school.
- Meets full financial need.
- Tuition is locked in from Freshman year.
- Majority of students graduate in 4 years.
- Guarantee that students will graduate in 4 years.
- Will cover the cost of additional time for students who may not be able to graduate in 4 years
- Students receiving instituional scholarships will not lose their scholarship if they drop below the GPA requirement.
- Test Optional for admission and scholarshps.
- Focus on diversity and inclusion with 20% students of color.
- Average class size is 16.
- Student faculty ratio is 11:1.
- Partners with University of Kentucky for student activities which is less than 3 miles away.
- Focuses on community involvement.
- Applications are free.
- Can create your own major.
